A Family Tradition

Back in the 1940™™s we had a Frigidaire. For the next 40 years we maintained our relationship with Frigidaire or its connected marketer, and never had a problem. In the early 80s I rented a small, new house and it had a Frigidaire. When I moved, it went with me to three homes. In 1996 I retired it to the garage where it still serves me with beverages and frozen foods. The (unnamed) replacement in the kitchen worked well for a few years but has been a major headache for the last decade. So I bought a Frigidaire Model FGHT2055VF and I am delighted with it. It fits beautifully in the small area that I had for it. The stainless steel surface is easy to clean and beautiful to look at.The doors open easily with recessed hand hand-holds instead of handles that can bang into a wall. The freezer area is huge; more than twice as much room for frozen foods than any I™™ve seen. There is only one shelf which can be adjusted, but I think I™™ll get another shelf just in case I need it. The temperature controls are on the back wall and is a slider. Maybe a problem, but is designed not to be accidentally altered by moving food around or by ™little™ fingers. This same arrangement is in the normal refrigerated area. The refrigerated area has a full-width Deli drawer and can handle a lot of cold cuts. I imagine that if you were having a party, you could fix small trays of deviled eggs or similar items and keep them fresh while you prepare other items that require heat. The crispers drawers are at the bottom and keep items crisp longer. That is because the unit seems to dehumidify. Even though you might be in and out of the refrigerator and a frosty coat appears on the shelves, if the door is closed for a few minutes, that frost disappears. The door inside shelves are wide and appear to be adjustable in height. That makes getting a half gallon of milk or Cranberry juice out difficult but not impossible. The bottom shelf is not as deep as the other two, as is quite low. I™™m 83 and short, so bending down to get things from the lower shelf or the crispers is difficult, but not impossible. NBA players beware. And as I close the door I find a nice surprise. As you close the door, when you get about a foot from closing it you feel resistance. As you pass that resistance, the door closes rapidly and firmly. For those of us who have a habit of nudging the door shut with an elbow or hip, then finding that the door didn™™t seal, or have a child who doesn™™t always check to see that the door is sealed, this takes a bit of retraining but will result in a better result in refrigeration. It™™s no guarantee that this new Frigidaire will last 30 years, but if you take the time to clean and care for it (as recommended) you will enjoy the features and dependability of this machine. I™™m happy to be back with Frigidaire.
