I am not sure if the furnace turns on or somebody turned on the outside water spigot fully open So you can hear the water flowing through the pipes loudly, or a snowmobile driving by outside. Nope , It's the frigerator turning on.. Is this compressor supposed to be hissy when it turns on???

GREAT LITTLE REFRIGERATOR 17.5 CUBIC FEET

Our larger fridge is always over crowded with things we do not use daily or often. I bought this basic fridge and put it out in my shop where I had a very little mini fridge just for cold drinks. This G.E. refrigerator got cold in a few minutes and works as it should. For an inexpensive basic model I am very happy with it as I have been over the years with many G.E. appliances.

Not Garage Ready

The product was said to be "Garage Ready" by the sales manager that sold us this product. There was nothing in the sales/online specifications that indicated it was not. Upon receipt and reading the "Quick Owners Guide" it states that it should only be installed in area within temperature range of 60F to 100F. I checked the online "Owner's Manual & Installation Instructions" and it inconsistently stated that it should only be installed in area within temperature range of 55F to 100F. Needless to say, our unheated/uncooled garage will not consistently provide the conditions that this product requires. I am disappointed by the sales person telling us that "all GE refrigerators are garage ready" and the misleading product sales information that does not clearly show the environmental operating conditions that are required.

This refrigerator is very cold. Putting it on 5 (the coldest setting) was like having a second freezer -- our chicken wouldn't dethaw. Putting it on 3 (the recommended setting) was still a bit chilly so we put it on 2. It is a very cold fridge but that's a good problem to have.

I've only had this refrigerator one day, but am very satisfied. I needed one that fit the opening available. It is simple but well-made. I've had GE appliances before that lasted quite a long time. This one has just what I needed and wanted and didn't cost a bundle Plus, the interior looks very roomy because it wasn't loaded with lots of drawers, shelves and ice maker , I can find everything easily.

I always loved GE products, have basically grown up on them. After many years of Luxury clothing, I recently got into the applance industry. I can say that aside from Subzero/wolf brand? GE is the only other brand that I can help people wI think peace of mind & also have in my home. Of all of the smaller/apt sized refrigerators? This is the only one that I know of that actually LASTS a long time..not to mention the service department is great with GE. There is not a huge selection in this particular size I LOVE the layout of the doors. There's a lot of space in this fridge!

Great Little Spacious Fridge

I bought this fridge to replace the largest size side-by-side door fridge, and was a little worried I might not be able to fit everything we need in it. I have been quite surprised that I can fit so much more than in my larger fridge! I also love that I can easily fit a cookie sheet in the freezer. My husband loves that it uses so much less energy. It is a simple, no frills fridge, which is what we wanted. We actually like the wire shelves, which keep even a coffee mug perfectly stable and are nostalgic for us. I don't like that the closed door, when leaned on, makes the sound of air releasing. We had it checked out and nothing is wrong with it. I also don't like that it is a bit louder than expected maybe just because it seems to run for longer periods than our old fridge. It was explained that this is due to the smaller (more energy efficient) motor which takes longer to do what larger motors do more quickly, but uses less energy doing it. Overall, I am very happy with this fridge, and when the day comes that it has to be replaced, if it still exists I'd buy it again.
