This is the worst washer weve ever used and weve used many washers. The water sensor doesnt work you have to stand there and babysit it to make sure that theres enough water to cover clothing never is and you have to get in there during the wash cycle to push the clothes around or youll have detergent stains. Clearly nothing is getting cleaned. Youre better off with a manual washboard and a bucket. The app is a joke. Also LG wont let you complete a review if you select one star. You have to select more stars to get to the review screen and only then can you go back and select one star. I guess if your product is garbage you have to be slimy like that. Never again LG.

I bought this washer dryer set on 2/27/2026 and STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED the items. Delivery company still hasnt received products from LG. Customer Service Dept. is useless. They said items will be delivered in 2 days every time I call. Thats 3 times this happened since placing the order. Was told this would be escalated to the internal escalation team. Still nothing. Terrible washing no water

I wouldnt recommend this washer to anyone. Its terrible. The impeller feature doesnt allow the clothes to properly be washed and I often have to wash clothes twice. It might be good for handwashing since there is so little friction. The capacity is large but useless since it doesnt submerge in water wash properly. Theres so little friction that theres not even soap suds while washing. The only place I find soap suds is in the soap dispenser after the cycle. The cycles are super fast they all start out at about an hour but change to 22-26 minutes after it gets going. Theres not a lot of wash time and my dryer takes way longer so the cycles are way off. My washer is in the garage so the noise its too bad but I can still hear it at times. The water sensing mechanism doesnt sense properly and half the clothes are not submerged in water. I followed their advice to reset the sensing feature and unfortunately it now uses even less water. Im so frustrated and disappointed that a $1000 machine cant even clean clothes properly. What a waste of time and money. Stop with the fancy Smart AI features and go back to basics for good quality machines. The photos are of 3 different loads using the normal cycle each halfway through the 22 minute cycle. The photo of the sheets/blankets is before resetting the water feature. Black and red clothes photos are after resetting the water sensing.

Worst washer I have ever owned and the dryer that goes with it is just as bad. This washer has RUINED at least 10 items of clothing. There is no way to fix or recover these items. They came out of the load looking tie dyed. I tried switching detergents using only clear products and that didnt work. I cannot wash anything that is new and/or white without it getting destroyed. I have had this unit barely over a year. I will never purchase LG again and Im counting down the days until I can afford to dump this and buy a new one.

Too many reasons to avoid...

I have two major complaints about this washer. #1. The lid. Yes the lid that opens and closes on the top of the unit. Whomever thought it was a good idea to put this at an angle is a moron. It may look appealing in a show room but its unbelievably impractical in the home. Youll instinctively try and put things on top of your washer and they will stay there just long enough for you to walk away. Then whatever you put there will topple off. The glass lid is also super easily scratched and appears dirty often - even with frequent cleaning. #2. The features in general. You cant change the default water temp to cold. You cant disable to auto lock feature that stays on after the wash cycle is complete. And the integration with the app which youll want for delicate small load and other washing options requires you to enable the washer to start based on the apps directive. Turbo wash another default is super effective for washing rugs for example but will easily ruin clothes items and will make brand new Bombas socks pill. The positives: the capacity is huge great for bedding its affordable and you can change the dig when the cycle finishes to sound like a Beethoven song....if you ever wish to annoy your spouse a little Would NOT purchase again.

Terrible design. No option to add more water. Self sensing function will add about an inch of water to a full load. Clothes come out worse due to only damp conditions. Sometime it will sit at 26 minutes for the entire day while not doing anything. Called LG multiple times and they refuse to do anything about it. Machine is about 3 weeks old.

Deceptive website promotion | horrible cust servc

So far product works fine. The one star is for the fact that the promotion offered free installation and free haul-away as shown in the image. It was the primary reason we decided on LG over other brands. But when it was delivered we had to pay out of pocket for haul-away and had to install it ourselves. The failure on my part was evidently not clicking the two + buttons during the order process. At first glance it seemed free and it was supposedly but since I didnt click those buttons which doesnt seem to visually change anything I couldnt take advantage of the offer - Yet the promotion is still active for others. When I called LG to correct the oversight they wouldnt yield nor would they let me speak to a manager nor have even responded to any of my correspondences. In hindsight I should have not accepted delivery canceled the order then re-ordered since the promotion seems to still be available. Their lack of response and uncompromising stance has caused me to vow never to buy an LG device of any kind ever again. Very disappointing.

Quality control issues with touch sensitivity

I purchased the LG WT8400CW on December 26. After installation the installer ran a quick wash cycle and left. When I attempted to use the washer myself I immediately ran into issues. I loaded about half a drum of clothes powered the unit on and selected the Normal Wash cycle. The Start button would not respond. I pressed it multiple times with no result. I turned the machine off and back on and tried again but it still would not start until I pressed the Start button very hard. This is extremely concerning for a brand-new washer. The touch sensitivity on this model appears to be unreliable and I do not feel confident that the controls will hold up over time. Because of this I requested the store to pick up the unit while I am still within the 48-hour return window. I also noticed a performance issue during the wash cycle: a shirt sitting on top of the load was never pulled under the water and did not get properly cleaned. Overall this experience makes me feel that quality control was lacking for this unit. I ultimately decided to go with a top-load washer that has physical knobs and buttons which are far more dependable.

I like LG products but trying to get our washer delivered through LG.com has been and is still a very painful process. Originally scheduled for Wednesday delivery was running late and rescheduled for Monday. I spent my whole day at home waiting for the delivery and nada. I get a text around 8 pm telling me rescheduled for Tuesday. Tuesday comes goes still nothing. I spent probably 4 hours on hold over 2 days trying to get an update or delivery slot. Once I finally reached somebody the answer was sorry youll have to reschedule here is the link. Now Id have to wait another week since no slots available until next Monday if they even show up. LG try to run a family of 4 with sport activities every day without a washer for 2 weeks and tell me how that makes you feel. Meanwhile I got the same wash machine from Coscto which I am confident will be delivered 2 days after I place the order.

Frustating

The machines capacity is almost too big...I could bathe in it if there were not an impeller. I am not complaining about that...its more of an observation. I am disappointed that there is not a soak feature as that is important to me. I do not like the load sensing as there have been many times that not enough water used and the detergent did not rinse off of the load. It is hard to figure out when I can/should use the deep fill option. The App was time consuming to set up and didnt really offer any more load features. I miss older machines that were easier to used and had features I used/needed vs useless tech that doesnt add value.

Regarding features/specifications: Ive been a loyal LG fan for many years. When my last LG washer finally gave out I researched the latest models and purchased top load washer WT8400CW. Everything I read led me to expect a stainless steel impeller - exactly like my last washer. However when the new one arrived today I was very disappointed to find it has a plastic impeller. I double checked the specs online and called customer service three calls but no one was able to tell me where the specs clearly state the impeller is plastic. A stainless steel impeller was one of my top three required features.

My LG washer is just over a year old. Ive owned and used many other brands over the years but this is my first LG. No gentle cycle no instruction manual QR code under the lid to view a manual doesnt work hard to see the buttons but absolutely worst of all is the brown crud that appears on my clothes after being washed. I have NEVER had this happen before. Ive always with every washer Ive had used very little liquid detergent no fabric softener but do use the cold cycle often. Not sure why this happens only with LG but I would not buy another LG washer nor would I recommend one. Very disappointed cant wait to get rid of it.

Let me first start by saying my nightmare with LG started on 8/14 and is still on going. I hate it honestly as we have been an LG family for years NO MORE My top load washer that was purchased 9/29/2024 stopped working on 8/14/2025. Yes less than a year old. But glad still under factory warranty. Well that is the first LG issue as their warranty really doesnt mean much especially when it comes to customer service. We put in a ticket with a gentleman on the phone who then advised someone from a repair shop will be in touch with us in 24 hours. CRIKETS. My husband called back and spoke with a lady who said. Oh I am sorry he never did that he started a claim but never had anyone listed to get in touch with you let me do that now. Okay mistakes happen. Fast forward another 24 hours and we get a text message that a repair show will be getting in touch with us. Overnight we received another text that the repair shop declined the service and they were on the hunt for another one. My husband had to call back again because no one reached out. Finally get another text that another repair shop will be in touch to schedule overnight again receive text that repair shop declined to repair. This happens 3 times in total. My question to LG is are you not paying out your warranty work so that no appliance repair shop is will to work for you? Now we are coming up on a week of no washer no repair in site. Again what is the since of having a warranty if the repair cannot be done. We call again this time to escalate the issue we get a whole reference number and think okay the next person that calls us is going to be able to do something. WRONG. In the meantime we get another text stating that a repair shop will be calling to set up an appointment. This is now our 4th repair shop but they do actually reach out but cannot come until September 3rd. So now we have wasted a week trying to get a repair man and when we finally do it is another 2 weeks out. How is this acceptable? I am asking 8/21 our escalation guy Carlos calls. Says well that is the soonest the repair shop can get to you. I have to question if they will even show up to Carlos as every other repair shop has cancelled. Then what do we go back to calling repair shops? This is insane to me. We advised the entire top of the washer is broken the plastic underneath has broken. We originally thought it was just a locking issue but no upon further review the lock the underneath all thin plastic and lid is completely detached. It is not even connected to the washer anymore. Carolos advised he is not authorized to do anything more than add to my warranty. I asked you mean the Warranty that I seem to not be able to use now. What good is that doing me? Also you are telling me I will need more warranty as your product is shotty at best. Carlos also why are you the escalation team if that is all you can do? Maybe I am not in the norm. but I feel like more could have and should be done here. We have no guarantee of arrive of said repair shop on 9/3. So we just wait. Fortunately I am in a position where I can pay to go to a laundry mat but what if I didnt. what if I relied on Soley on this machine for school/work clothes. Does anyone else think that 3 weeks is an acceptable amount of time to be without a product not even a year old that was not cheap to buy in the first place? Again I am asking. I will continue to update on my LG issues. BUYER BEWARE

I have been very disappointed with the over all performance of this washer. The bottom agitator doesnt not move the clothes enough to get them very clean. I did not realize that the machine would not have a soak cycle which I use quite often for pet laundry. Also this machine does not handle pet fur or any kind of lint very well. I wish I could have my old stupid washing machine back.

Very frustrating to use. The machine is supposed to be large capacity but while I washed a load of towels the machine started leaking. An ABT technician came over and said the machine had to be on the bedding cycle in order for it not to leak. Im very disappointed because this never happened with any other LG machine.

Same comments as the drier that we bought with this washer. Good performance terrible control panel simply CANT READ THE ENTIRE PANEL ITS JUST TOO DIM. Washer seems to work well but we have added lighting removed lighting no results its just too dim. We are now having lables printed to stick on the DIM LETTERS on the non functional panel.

Cant customize any cycles and save as permanent

Purchased unit. After received found that Normal cycle always defaults to HOT water. Looked for a way to program the cycle to permanently accept COLD water for the Normal cycle and you cannot do it Also if you want to use the THinQ app and change to cold it will not allow you to change settings for preset cycles you can only change at the machine directly and only for that one wash. This is the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Most current articles tell you not to use HOT for washing yet this machine default to HOT for the normal cycle. I have to change it manually at the machine every time and it is not possible to use the app because the app rejects any changes to present cycles. I may have to return it.

Motor Broken

Fairly disappointed and wish Id gone with a different model. There isnt even a delicate cycle without downloading it. You also cant soak your clothes without unplugging the machine. It is also much louder than our previous machine despite claiming to be quiet. Im overall pretty disappointed. I would not rebuy and really wish I had had a chance to look in person before buying. I wouldnt have chosen this one. The one positive thing is that it is big.

Many Options But Limited

I just purchased this washer and am very disappointed on how it works. My previous washer which I will be fixing and re-using is 20 years old and I have the ability to adjust the water level. I understand that the new washers have this done by the computer but there is a problem with the water level. If I select a normal wash I am not able to remove the turbo wash option. The machine uses very little water and most of the clothing isnt even submerged in water. If you select the deep fill option it does work but it uses way too much water. I also used the bedding cycle and that uses way too much water for bedding sheets. It should be called a comforter setting instead. I also had some steam end up on my floor after a few cycles. Not exactly sure if this is normal or not. Furthermore there is also a little pool of water on the impeller after the end of the cycle dripping from the laundry detergent. While the impeller is plastic it shouldnt be there IMO. LG please give users the ability to select their OWN water level if the stupid computer cant figure it out.

High Tech but low quality

I bought this washer from Best Buy and 4 months later it broke. The top load door latch broke and it would no longer close latch or wash. LG refused to fix stating latch and door were not covered under warranty. We replaced our 10yo LG Top Loader after the control board went out on the old one. We were so impressed with how the old unit worked we continued with LG. This new unit does loads even faster uses less water but plenty to saturate all items and clean well is very simple to use and is a great value for the cost. The new design makes reaching items in the bottom of the tub easier. Weve had the new unit for a couple weeks and have run NUMEROUS loads of every kind and variety including small loads to very full loads - everything comes out clean It is amazing how it can spin at 950rpm and be so quiet with virtually no vibration. Very easy to set up and maintain. Control panel took some adjusting to use but is simple once we identified our preferred settings. Black top and control panel does gather fingerprints but is easily wiped down. Consumer Reports had this listed as their 2nd best Top Loading Impeller Washer only 1 point behind the #1 washer which was also an LG We are very pleased with our purchase. Highly recommended

We bought this when we decided to get rid of our old front loader. I love the large capacity. What I used to do in 2-3 loads I can do in 1 now. I also love that I can wash my king size comforter in it I like the variety of washes from a deep wash to a quick one. I really enjoy that it has an app and will notify me when the cycle ends. I do find it is gentler on the clothes than the front loader or an agitator. However it hasnt had any trouble getting out my 3year old or 8month olds messes. I have had to do a little pre scrub or a second wash every once in a while on the 8month olds messes but it still gets the job done.

Cant soak pre-wash.. frustrating

Someone else reviewed it and LG incorrectly said there was a soak/prewash option available. There is no pre wash on this model so please correct customer service response. If you pause the cycle part way after it fills it auto drains after 4-5 minutes so thats not a work around. Incredibly frustrating. Can you add a downloadable cycle which has a prebuilt soak for 1 or 2 hours? Otherwise its a good washer but this is kind of crazy to buy a washer where you cant pre-soak. Also I spoke with customer service and there is no downloadable cycle with a soak feature. The heavy duty cycle does some for 10 min but thats not enough.

Happy with its ability to clean and most features. ThinQ app works very well. Seems to clean well. It has a major flaw that LG should fix. THERE IS NO SOAK FEATURE Its an $800 machine and the only way to soak is to cheat the system. LG can you create a Downloadable SOAK cycle? or possibly 3 of these? Allow all the buttons to be editable. One Soak downloadable CYCLE could fill the tub pause for 30 min the finish the cycle. The other for 1 hr maybe a third for 2 hours? Please fix this. Otherwise it would get 5 stars. Current work arounds. Fill it up yourself Bucket-hose-whatever and soak it. Im not certain if you can manually pause the cycle once its filled will give it a try soon. Customer service mentioned the Bedding cycle may have a soak time? But thats not described or documented in any manual. Can you clarify this? I had a 10 year old machine with soak and no spin feature. I tried buying another LG machine first but you couldnt turn off the spin cycle for very delicate items. This one you can turn spin off. But not having a soak feature is a big deal and I didnt notice that until buying. LG can you fix this?

I just replaced by old LG washer from 2011 with this new 8400 model and as the reviewer Logan101 said - there is NO soak option The response from the LG Digital Care Team is NOT incorrect as there are no cycles or cycle options for soak that can be downloaded for this model. I started a chat session to get support and was told to use the Heavy Duty cycle but there is no soak option with it. I would have picked another model spending more if necessary to have a soak option so be aware if you need this. Shame on LG for not specifying somewhere in the description. My 2011 model has this option why get rid of something so simple??

WT8400CW we bought the LG washer. I like everything about it. The detergent dispenser needs to be relooked at. After washing theres some water left in the detergent section. I need to call CS cause I have read many reviews and this is one complaint another customers have made. Other that that we always buy LG products and are very happy with their products. We love the touch screen control on the washer and dryer. I didnt like my front loader any more with the rubber seal was always hard for me to clean. I felt the rubber seal had a lot of muck with black spots that didnt come out when you would clean it. I bought a Lg top loader and I am so happy big did. I love they have a 10 yr motor warranty.

Do not buy. Custom cycles arnt really custom. They are just other presets not on machine. Also there is no option for soak. Why would that not be an option? I wished I had know that wasnt an option or we wouldnt have bought this machine.
